B is for Belize

Perfect Belize itinerary Placencia

My best friend Deb mentioned last Christmas she was going to Belize and wondered who wanted to join her. I said “I’m in!” without hesitation.

Deb planned the trip brilliantly. We travelled to four locations so we got to see different parts of the country. Deb knew several people that had travelled to Belize so she arranged the trip based on their collective highlights.

We started our trip in the interior, near Belmopan, to enjoy the caves and ruins.  Then we travelled to Placencia, a long isthmus on the Atlantic Ocean that we fell in love with.  We ended the trip with stays on two islands: Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker.  Ambergris Caye is a busy island with golf carts jamming the roads!  And Caye Caulker is a laid back island that doesn’t even have paved roads. I would recommend this itinerary to anyone traveling to Belize.

For the next week or so I’ll be posting the emails I sent to family and friends from Belize. Then I will officially have accounted for A, B, and C before the year’s end!  I’m already thinking about D.

"She's crazy and loud but she loves you!" That's what they tell my infant granddaughter to prepare her for my visit, so I thought it would be a great way to prepare you. And while I may not always be crazy or loud, one thing is always true: I LOVE people. That's at the heart of my passion for travel. I love getting to know people from different cultures who speak different languages, eat different food, have different ideas and opinions. I'm endlessly curious and make a point of reading about the countries I visit. Instead of saying "that's not how WE do it," I enjoy identifying strengths in diverse cultures, and learning about their way of life. I LOVE road trips! I have great memories of monthlong vacations growing up. Dad always had a van--before they were popular--and invited anybody who wanted to join us. My road trips within the United States will be featured in "The Lower Case Travelogs." Be sure to buckle your seat belt. I execute illegal u-turns if a bakery or estate sale is spotted!
